Does Ha Le dream of robotic sheep?

May 2009

Does Ha Le dream of electric sheep?Ha Le dreams of making robots. Not the sort that simply carry out their duties as programmed, but robots that can actually think and function by themselves.

“It’s my dream to be a part of what I think will be one of the biggest steps in human’s history – the creation of robots that possess the ability to think creatively like humans.”

Given his track record, Ha no doubt has the passion and the potential to make it happen.

In 2007 he became a champion of On the Way to Olympia Peak – the ever-popular television quiz program in Vietnam – winning himself AUD$40,000 from LG Electronics and a full scholarship to study at Swinburne.

He chose to pursue his childhood passion for robotics with a Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics) / Bachelor of Science (Computer Science and Software Engineering) double degree.

“Since I was a young boy, books and comics about robots have always been my favourite,” he says. “Robotics is not just a degree or a career – it’s much more than just an interest in my life.”

He’s been involved in various projects at Swinburne, from developing Lego robots to designing electrical and electronic systems as part of the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Science’s Formula SAE racing team.

“The high level of practical experience in the course has helped me apply my knowledge into real-life applications,” he says. “This has not only reinforced the theory but also taught me the skills that I’d have never learned just by sitting in lectures.”

Ha has just been accepted for an International Association of Exchange Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) traineeship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA to commence in December 2009.
