India welcomes Swinburne delegation

November 2009

India welcomes top delegation from Swinburne.A delegation of top academics and senior management from Swinburne undertook a five-day tour of India last month to address concerns about studying in Australia.

Headed up by Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Mr Jeffrey Smart, the tour began in Chennai on 19 October and included Hyderabad, New Delhi, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad.

Mr Smart said the tour was a good opportunity to personally reassure Indian people that Australians do not tolerate violence, as well as announcing new scholarships and Swinburne initiatives to enhance student safety.

"Overall, students and parents seemed very impressed by the fact that Swinburne has been implementing a comprehensive action plan to improve Indian student safety."

As well as talking to universities, parents and prospective students, the tour received widespread media coverage, including an opinion piece by Mr Smart in The Tribune.
