And the winner is... Swinburne College
June 2009
Melbourne’s winter chill was out in full force on Saturday, but even that didn’t manage to dampen the spirits of the Swinburne College team who walked away with the University Pathways Cup.
Despite the freezing weather – and a succession of cramps and pulled muscles – the Swinburne College team got through the first two rounds to the championship game where they beat RMIT (2-0).
The accolades kept coming with Colombia’s Sergio Palaez Molano winning best sportsmanship award and Mohammed Shaker, from Saudi Arabia, being named top goalie and most valuable player.
The team was led by ELICOS teacher-cum-coach Mark Sinnot and was made up of students from Brazil, Colombia, Nepal and Saudi Arabia.
The annual competition is in its third year and is open to international students undertaking university pathways programs at colleges throughout Melbourne.
