Is your resume holding you back?

June 2009

Is your resume holding you back?A good resume can go a long way.

Baddam Anirudh didn’t realise just how far until he attended a job seeking and employability skills workshop run by Swinburne’s Careers and Employment team.

He had been looking for a job since he arrived in Australia from India seven months ago. “It wasn’t until I attended the workshop that I realised my resume was holding me back,” he says.

After adapting his resume based on recommendations from the Careers and Employment team, Baddam received three calls from potential employers in one day.

Less than a week later, he got a job with one of Australia's leading retail outlets.

“I wasn't aware that a correct resume highlighting your skills can bring about so much change,” Baddam says.

Swinburne’s Careers and Employment unit provides a free resume checking service at all campuses. Just bring a print-out of your latest resume and drop in to the careers office between 1.30pm–2.30pm. (Check the link to the schedule below for exact days on your campus.)

Students can attend a maximum of five sessions per year. The service is also available to Swinburne university graduates for up to two years after completing their degree and six months thereafter for TAFE graduates.
