Non-IELTS and TOEFL Requirements
You may not require an IELTS or TOEFL score to apply for a Swinburne course if you:
- Are studying English at the Swinburne English Language Centre
- Had English as the language of instruction during previous education
- Have completed a GCE 'A' Level
- Have completed an International Baccalaureate
- Have studied English in some European countries
Applicants From Swinburne English Language Centre
Students who have completed English for Academic Purposes can progress directly to Swinburne. Entry is subject to all other conditions being met and achieving the required results in your English language course:

You will not need to do the IELTS or TOEFL unless your student visa requires it. Further information regarding visa requirements and applications is available from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website.
* Some individual courses require a lower or higher IELTS score.
Applicants With English as the Language of Instruction
Secondary and/or tertiary studies at an institution where English is the only/main language of instruction and assessment may qualify students to meet the English language requirements for study at Swinburne.
Students must have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of two full-time years (four standard full-time semesters) of study, not more than 2 years prior to submitting an application to Swinburne University.
Documentary evidence in the form of a letter or transcript is required from the institution at which the study was undertaken. Each application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants With GCE 'A' Level
You must obtain a score of 'C' or better for A level English from one of Singapore, Hong Kong, Britain, Kenya or South Africa.
Applicants With International Baccalaureate
Minimum of 4 in English A1 or A2 (Higher and Standard Levels) or Minimum of 5 in English B (Higher Level).
Applicants From Some European Countries
Denmark
Studentereksamen grade 7 in English Level A or grade 10 in English Level B.
Germany
Fachhochschulereife with at least 3 in English, or,
Abitur with at least 7 in English, or,
DAAD language test with minimum of B in all sections
Netherlands
Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs minimum 7 in English.
Norway
Vitnemal den Videragaende Skole minimum 4 in English.
Sweden
VG in English.
