DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ORIENTATION?

To settle in to your new life and prepare for a successful and rewarding time with Swinburne, it is important to attend the Orientation program.

Orientation includes official events such as registration, enrolment into your course and information sessions as well as campus tours and entertainment. It is also a good opportunity to meet new friends in a fun atmosphere.

Visit the international orientation program for semester two 2007 online.

IF I ARRIVE LATE FOR ORIENTATION, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you are unable to arrive in time to attend the first day of orientation, you will need to check the Late Enrolments information for your campus - Hawthorn, Prahran or Lilydale.

Make sure that you bring the required documents with you:
Your passport
A photocopy of the photo page and the visa page of your passport and/or e-visa
Letter of Offer from Swinburne
If you are seeking exemptions please provide original or certified copies of transcripts from your previous course/s and a copy of your previous syllabus.
Any other documentation to satisfy conditions on your Letter of Offer for example, IELTS Test score sheet.

WHEN DO I PAY MY FEES?

Your first semester’s fee is due in full prior to your first enrolment. You should make your payment when you accept your offer. (This applies to students who may have previously enrolled at Swinburne in a different course).

HOW DO I PAY MY FEES?

You can pay your deposit in various ways - Credit Card, EFTPOS, Telegraphic Transfer and Overseas Bank Draft/Australian Bank Cheque. Please refer to our Paying Your Deposit webpage for detailed information.

WHEN CAN I DISCUSS EXEMPTIONS?

During the orientation program, you will meet with your Faculty or Department staff to discuss your course and enrolment details. At this time, any exemptions will be finalised.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY COURSE?

Please be aware that you cannot arrive at Swinburne and then change immediately into another Swinburne course.  To change your course, you must fill in a Application to Change/Defer Course Form and in the meantime, enrol in the course you have an offer for.

To avoid waiting in a line at Swinburne International during the busy period of the first few weeks of semester, we recommend downloading the form from the Swinburne International website (see link above) and filling it in before you come to see us.

I WANT TO CHANGE MY COURSE. DO I HAVE TO ENROL IN THE COURSE I HAVE AN OFFER FOR?

Yes. It is not automatic that you will get an offer in the course that you want to change in to, and it is a condition of your student visa that you are enrolled in your course.

HOW DO I WITHDRAW FROM MY COURSE?

To withdraw from your course, you must first have an appointment with an International Student Advisor (ISA). Please do not come to the Swinburne International counter expecting to see an ISA. You MUST have an appointment.

To make an appointment with an International Student Adviser please email isa@swin.edu.au.

HOW/WHERE DO I CHANGE MY UNITS/SUBJECTS?

To change your units/subject after enrolment, go to your Faculty office. You will need to complete the Application to Amend Enrolment form. For details on available units, please refer to your Faculty or Enrolling School.

MY TIMETABLE CLASHES, WHAT DO I DO?

You need to speak to your Faculty about alternatives. This may include changes to your current enrolment.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD?

After you have completed the orientation program and have received an official confirmation of enrolment at Swinburne, you can then visit the Student Information Centre (SIC) on campus to have your photo taken and your Student ID card issued. Please bring along your confirmation of enrolment or some photo ID of yourself. Your ID card will identify you as a Swinburne student when you are accessing services and facilities on Swinburne campuses.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CLASS TIMETABLE?

Once you have completed all steps in the enrolment process, you will receive details of your class timetable.

HOW DO I GET MY OSHC WORLDCARE CARD?

Your OSHC Worldcare card can be downloaded from the OSHC Worldcare website. Further details are available on our Pre-Departure and Arrival website. OSHC Worldcare regularly visit Swinburne and information sheets are also available at Swinburne International Reception.

I ALREADY HAVE SOME OSHC COVER. DO I HAVE TO HAVE PROGRAM LENGTH COVER?

It is a requirement at Swinburne University of Technology that you purchase Program Length Cover. This method of payment is a once only payment which provides rate protection for the duration of the cover. This means that even if OSHC premiums increase during the time of your Program Length Cover, you do not have to pay any increase.

Swinburne International can arrange to top up your existing OSHC.  To work how much to pay, count the number of months from your current OSHC expiry date to the end of your course.  Refer to the OSHC Worldcare price list to see how much to include for OSHC in your deposit.  Please note that you will need to complete all of Section C of the Offer Acceptance Form.

WHERE CAN I GET HELP FINDING ACCOMMODATION?

Comprehensive information about accommodation is provided during your orientation and is also available online.

Swinburne International also conducts a free Accommodation Assistance Program during the Orientation period each semester, with regular information sessions for students.

WHEN CAN I APPLY FOR A WORK PERMIT AND TAX FILE NUMBER?

You can apply for a work permit and a tax file number once you have commenced your classes at Swinburne.  Please do not come to Swinburne International until you have completed two weeks of classes as we will not be able to process your work permit application.

Step by step instructions on how to apply for Work Permits are available online. Here you can download the necessary forms and complete them before coming to the Swinburne International office.
