Short-term overseas programs, such as study tours, give you an international experience for life. A study tour is the perfect option if you want to internationalise your course in a short amount of time. It allows you to develop skills that you can benefit from both personally and professionally. Swinburne offers a range of different study tours each year across many discipline areas. Study tours vary from two weeks to over a month in duration and take you to exciting destinations all over the world! Below you will find an overview of the study tours and short-term programs offered at Swinburne.

Electives Plus @ Sarawak

Sarawak SunsetThis three or six-week program gives you the opportunity to undertake an Electives Plus sequence and fast-track your undergraduate degree. It also gives you the chance to experience the amazing destination of Kuching, Malaysia; home of Swinburne's Sarawak campus. You will not only gain career-oriented skills, but also develop your independence and make new friends. Different streams of the Electives Plus curriculum will be offered as part of this program each year. Electives Plus @ Sarawak runs every year in July.

Future Leaders Program

Shanghai Main Street by nightThis two-week study tour to China is a unique opportunity to gain a hands-on international experience. Activities include industry visits and meeting corporate high-flyers. You will also hear from experts speaking on a wide range of topics, including leadership, environmental issues and business ethics. Participation in the Future Leaders Program will give your résumé a competitive edge and help you stand out from the crowd with future employers. The program provides you with real opportunities to network and secure advantageous contacts. What's more, you get to experience the many delights Asia has to offer!

The London Experience

LondonThe name says it all! Experience the best of London on this five-week tour, which includes a four-week, paid work-placement program in the hospitality industry. The London Experience is a unique opportunity to learn about the employment requirements at London venues. You also get a week of exciting sight-seeing, which includes a lunch at Jamie Oliver's restaurant, Fifteen! This tour is open to all Swinburne students and gives you the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and get a taste of London.

International Business Study Tour

Malaysian BillboardsWould you like to get an insight into how business is conducted in Asia? This two-week tour is arranged every year and takes you to two exciting countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Here you get the amazing opportunity to visit a range of companies - financial, retail, manufacturing, service and government - as well as a chance to meet managers and senior executives to hear their views. The International Business Study Tour provides you with unique insight into the culture, economy and business practices in two countries.

European Union Study Tour

European UnionDo you want an introduction to the organisation and institutions of the European Union? This annual study tour travels across eight cities in six key member countries of the European Union. You will visit Australian Embassies and Consulates, Austrade, European Union institutions and other important international bodies. You will be able to listen to and engage with spokespeople explaining their role and their relationship with Australia. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for degree students to participate in high-level meetings and encounters in the European world of business and politics.

Cultural Study Tour

Malaysian danceThe Cultural Study Tour is designed to equip you with a range of skills that will increase your employability in an increasingly globalised employment market. You will have the opportunity to receive instruction on intercultural communications and ethnography, while being immersed in the rich cultural environment of Malaysia. This will provide you with a valuable grounding in understanding and dealing with different cultures, while the international location will allow you to apply what you are learning in a real-world context.

German Design Study Tours

German trainGet a truly eye-opening experience!
The Faculty of Design offers a combined industrial design and product design engineering study tour, as well as a separate communication design study tour to Germany. Both study tours give you first-hand experience of design in a German context, while also providing a rich cultural experience through visits to museums, exhibitions and design sites. The German Design Study Tours range from four to six weeks in duration. They consist of a cultural component, where you develop an appreciation for German design and design issues, and a design project component, which is undertaken at one of Swinburne's German partner universities. The German Design study tours take place in November-December each year.

Treviso Study Progam

Treviso groupThis four-week study program allows you to experience Italy's history and culture, while understanding modern Italian society and business practices. Treviso, a delightful little city in the Veneto region (north-east of Italy), can certainly be considered a cradle of traditional yet modern Italian culture. Studying in Treviso offers you the opportunity to experience Italian culture and society first-hand, improve your Italian language skills, gain a competitive advantage in your future career, develop an international vision and much more.

Aviation Study Tour

Aviation Study Tour 2007See how aviation theory is applied in practice while gaining an international experience. The Aviation Study Tour takes you to some of the world's busiest airports and major organizations in key areas of the aviation industry. Previous tours have taken students around the world in a few weeks and provided them with insight into design and operational challenges in the industry.
Through amazing tours of major aircraft and engine manufacturing organisations, you will develop an appreciation of the highly significant roles played by major players in the industry. The tour takes place every second year and destinations and departure dates may vary.

Circus Arts Study Tour

ArtistExtend yourself on the Circus Arts Study Tour. The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) study tour will introduce you to the international circus arts community. You will be able to discover the cultural and contemporary context of individual circus acts and engage with international performers, leaders, teachers and students. The tour will include attendance at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris (the 'Olympic Games' of circus), training at an elite European circus arts school and participation in cultural tours.

Child and Family Studies China Preferential Placement

Child and Family StudiesAdd an international experience to your Diploma of Children's Services with a two-week placement in a Chinese kindergarten. This is a unique chance to experience another culture and gain new skills; interacting with children and teachers in a Chinese kindergarten in the Dong Guan area. You will have the chance to work in a new and exciting environment with sometimes up to 500 children, participate in excursions and experience Chinese culture and life. The program takes place in June each year.

Asia-Pacific Rim Business Study Tour

Asia-Pacific Rim Business Study TourDo you want to experience different Asian business cultures and learn how they deal with rapid international business development? The Asia-Pacific Rim Business Study Tour will take you to China, Hong Kong and Japan and gives you an exciting insight into business life in other cultures. On the tour, you will visit several institutions, such as export and trade organisations, investment banks and business enterprises.
The tour takes place in June-July every year.

Fire Study Tour

TAFE School of Arts, Hospitality and Sciences
This study tour will give you the opportunity to travel to the USA to study and experience the latest firefighting techniques from an American perspective. A two-day Fire School at Kirkwood College in Iowa will be central to this tour. Visits to fire depots in Chicago, Los Angeles and Kirkwood will allow you to interact with firefighters. There will also be a site visit and tour of wildland fire areas to gain some understanding of the use of fire in prescribed burning. It is anticipated that the tour may be open to active firefighters from the industry in Victoria, which will allow you to form strong networks both globally and locally.
The tour is expected to run in September.
