International student survey winners!

Swinburne International would like to extend a big thank-you to everyone who completed our survey of new international students last year. All up we received about 450 responses – which is one in five new international students.

All respondents were put into a draw to win one of five $100 Coles Myer Gift Cards. Congratulations to the following lucky winners: Lise Hansen, S. Lu, Sujal Shrestha, Kar Yee Hiew and C. De Jesus Coelho.

The survey results will help us improve the quality of assistance and support we provide to all international students.

OSHC Worldcare Don't let the measles get you!

OSHC WorldcareDid you know OSHC Worldcare is Swinburne's preferred provider of Overseas Student Health Cover?

OSHC provides health insurance that covers the cost of hospital medical treatment, some pharmaceutical items and ambulance assistance in an emergency.

OSHC Worldcare is on campus at Swinburne every week to assist with:

  • Medical expense claims
  • Changing or renewing your membership
  • Answering all your questions about overseas health cover.

Find out when an OSHC representative is available on your campus.

Measles is pretty rare in Australia these days. Despite widespread use of a reliable vaccine, however, there have recently been three reported cases in Melbourne – one of which was an international student.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that causes a skin rash and fever. Symptoms may include:

  • Fever
  • Runny nose
  • Dry cough
  • Sore and red eyes
  • Red and bluish spots inside the mouth
  • Red and blotchy rash that appears on the face and hairline then spreads to the body.

Immunisation is the best protection and is available from the Health Service on the Hawthorn campus for $27.00.

Make an appointment with the Swinburne Health Service today.

Can chocolate improve your memory? Can chocolate improve your memory?

Are you – or someone you know – aged between 40 to 60 years old and want to earn $100? Swinburne's Brain Sciences Institute is conducting research into the effectiveness of a dark chocolate drink rich in antioxidants on improving memory, cognition and cardiovascular function in healthy, middle-aged people.

They're looking for participants who aren't on any medication to take part in a 30-day clinical trial. Participation involves three, five-hour testing sessions in Hawthorn; participants will receive $100 compensation on completion of the trial.

If you or someone you know is interested in taking part, contact Karen Nolidin on (03) 9214 4444 or by email at nutra@swin.edu.au
