March 2010

Semester 1 is underway!

These first few weeks are all about meeting new people and getting involved in the student community.

It's also a good time to think about your personal and academic goals. If you have your eyes set on the horizon, it's never too early to think about doing part of your Swinburne degree overseas.

Marvellous March is really the month with more events and festivals than any other time of the year. These are a great way to familiarise yourself with Melbourne if you're new to this city.

So, get out-and-about and explore!

Got a question? Ask George.

Is your student visa expiring?

Is your visa expiring? If so, you must extend your student visa or apply for an alternative visa before it expires. If you allow your visa to expire, you may have to leave Australia and not be allowed to return for three years.

You should apply to renew your student visa at least two months before it expires. First of all, you will need a new Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from Swinburne International*. You can then apply to renew your visa with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Please note that extensions are not automatic and are granted at the discretion of DIAC.

Follow the step-by-step guide to renewing your visa on the Swinburne International website. If you have any questions, contact DIAC on 131 881 or visit the Swinburne International office on your campus.

* Please note that this is different from the 'Confirmation of Enrolment and Tax Invoice' from your faculty.

DIAC staff will be on campus at the times and locations below to help you renew your visa online. Make sure you bring your CoE and current passport.
