February 2012 - Refresher Course


Get better results, study more effectively and get better results – come to our one week Refresher Course.


The Language and Academic Skills (LAS) team provides free language advice and teaching to international students. We help you get better results by improving your academic language in the following areas:

  • English and Academic Skills

    Improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills which will help you in understanding assignment requirements/questions, conduct oral presentations and with your expression, grammar and punctuation. You will also get help with critical analysis, developing an academic argument, referencing and study and exam strategies.

  • Computing and Research & Library Support

    Learn lots of useful information so that you can work faster on the computer using lots of shortcuts. You'll also discover how to make your assignments and reports look professional. You can also receive help researching your assignments and using the library catalogue and databases.

  • Mathematics and Statistics Support

    Get help with calculator use, business math, statistics, calculus based math, English used in math and statistics and basic maths revision.



You can get support in the above areas by attending one of the following sessions:

  • Lunchtime Conversation Groups

    One of the best ways to practise English conversation is in an informal setting with a friendly English-speaker and interesting students from different courses. Conversation groups are held at lunchtime each day, so feel free to bring your lunch with you.

  • Workshops

    Improve your English and study skills so you can get better results. Learn about Aussie talk and culture so you can easily socialise with other students. Improve your computing and research skills. Come to our workshops. There's no need to book, just drop in.

     


English and Study Skills FREE Refresher Course - Hawthorn

Improve your English and study skills so you get better results next semester!

Higher education students - study more effectively. Learn more about reading and writing strategies, group discussion, oral presentations, understanding Aussie slang as well as research, referencing, computer skills and how to avoid plagiarism.

Join this one-week course at the beginning of Semester 1 and Semester 2. There are morning and afternoon sessions each day and you can attend as many of these sessions as you like.

At Hawthorn campus workshops you learn about Australian Culture & Social Language; improve your Writing Skills; communicate better in Speaking & Listening; make your Reading more effective; use shortcuts to create professional documents in Computing and Research more effectively.
