Overview
Swinburne’s School of Film and Television is offering you the opportunity to be a part of the Melbourne Film Experience.
It's an exciting three-week study tour developed by leading industry professionals to give you a hands-on insight into the filmmaking process.
You'll learn technical and creative storytelling techniques and gain a good knowledge of digital cameras, sound and lighting equipment and the post-production process.
It also includes three weeks of cinematic indulgence as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF).
Program Dates
The Melbourne Film Experience will run between Monday 19 July to Friday 6 August 2010, coinciding with the Melbourne International Film Festival, which will run from Monday 22 July – 8 August 2010.
Program Aim
The Melbourne Film Experience will consist of lectures and hands-on project work to develop participants' skills in the creative, practical and critical processes of film production.
Participants will learn the fundamental principles of filmmaking including:
- screenwriting
- directing
- production: camera, lighting, sound
- digital editing
- film critique and analysis.
The program emphasises digital media production, particularly in relation to advanced production skills, creative direction and project management. At the end of the program, students will screen their collaborative short films.
Participants
The Melbourne Film Experience is designed for students with an interest in film, television and multimedia. Participants are not required to have a background in film and television studies, but we recommend a keen interest in international and Australian film, and a desire to learn about film production techniques.
Accreditation
The tour is accredited as part of Swinburne’s academic programs. On successful completion, students will receive 12.5 credit points which they can transfer back to their home institution or use towards further study at Swinburne.
Program Location
The program will take place at the School of Film and Television's Prahran campus, which is six kilometres from Melbourne's city centre. Classes will be held at the Film and Television teaching labs and studio facilities.
