Pre-departure & Arrival
After you have accepted your offer for a Study Abroad or Exchange program, follow the steps below to finalise your travel plans:
For instructions on how to apply, see how to Apply & Accept.
- Step 1 - Apply for Your Student Visa
- Step 2 - Request Airport Pickup and Temporary Accommodation
- Step 3 - Arrive in Melbourne
Step 1 - Apply for Your Student Visa
On the receipt of your Offer Acceptance Form, Swinburne will issue your Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). The eCoE is the document needed to apply for your student visa.
For information on applying for your student visa visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website.
As an international student in Australia you are permitted to work 20 hours a week during semester.
Step 2 - Request Airport Pickup and Temporary Accommodation
You can arrange airport pickup and/or temporary accommodation by making an online booking. Once we have received this form, you will receive an email confirmation of your pickup and/or temporary accommodation.
On campus accommodation is available at the Hawthorn and Lilydale campuses. There are also options such as private student accommodation, homestay and share house living. An Accommodation Officer will be available upon arrival to assist you with finding suitable accommodation. You will be placed in temporary accommodation (if necessary) until you locate permanent accommodation.
Step 3 - Arrive in Melbourne
You need to arrive in Melbourne prior to the Study Abroad Orientation. This compulsory program is a great opportunity to meet your fellow Study Abroad students, the Swinburne Abroad team and your faculty.
If you arrive before the official orientation program begins, we encourage you to contact a Swinburne Abroad Adviser and attend Welcome Hour, a session run especially for Study abroad and Exchange students.
